Day 9 - Banff

Friday 1st July 2016 – Banff – Day 9

A bright sunny day and busied myself on the boat after I been around the marina taking photographs, while Jack went off to the Tesco supermarket for provisions.

Banff Marina

By the afternoon, those heavy showers once more materialised and I stayed on board and started on this blogsite.  With shore power and being cold, it was possible to plug in the portable electric heater and it is the 1st July.

In the evening showers became rain with thunder but it all cleared away by 19.30 and I headed off, while Jack decided to stay on board.

It takes thirty minutes to walk to the Macduff, the town across the bay but it is not very inspiring when you get there.  It is still working fishing harbour with shipbuilding and repair facilities.

The only pub I found open was on the harbour front ‘The Old Moray’, a dowdy place with photographs of fishing vessels the only attraction.  I managed to stay for one drink while watching the first half of Wales verses Belgium game in the European football championship.

Into the Chinese restaurant ‘China Town’ for a meal of Thai spring rolls, followed by prawns with egg fried rice which ended up being enjoyable.

A leisurely stroll found me back in Banff for the last one in the ‘Ship Inn’ before arriving back on board.  Only to find Jack had an even more exciting evening.

He had gone over to the toilet/shower block, but not taking his glasses struggled to find the right combination on the door key pad, before eventually gaining entry.  While in the shower he was alerted by loud banging on the door, he answer the door wrapped only in his towel and was confronted by three policemen.

They wanted to know who he was, notify them of his address, so they could check his identification and why he was in Banff.  Once this was established, they became  more relaxed.  Seemingly there had been a number of burglaries in the area and an observant neighbour had reported to the police, there was someone acting suspiciously around the marina toilets.

Next time Jack, take your glasses.
